In the world of design, there’s something incredibly fulfilling about a project that not only looks good but does good too. Case in point: the Eco Firelighters packaging design by Đoàn Hải Tú, a seasoned designer based in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
Eco Firelighters, a brainchild of the startup Nam Tural, found an innovative use for rice straws, a low-value by-product usually burned by farmers post-harvest, causing air pollution. By converting these straws into firelighters, the company has developed a solution that benefits farmers, reduces pollution, and conserves trees.
To complement this eco-friendly initiative, Đoàn Hải Tú was tasked with crafting a packaging design that could stand out on the shelves while embodying the brand’s sustainable ethos.
Tú opted for an earthy color palette, with dark green as the hero tone, setting a stark contrast to typical packaging in the firelighter market. This intentional use of green not only highlights the flame and the product but also distinguishes the brand on store shelves, adding to its competitive advantages.
The packaging design further impresses with its hand-drawn logotype and illustrations, along with customized icons and instructions. These elements harmonize to create a unique, eco-friendly, and high-quality aesthetic that aligns perfectly with the brand’s mission.
Đoàn Hải Tú’s creative approach to the Eco Firelighters’ packaging offers a compelling case study in how design can amplify a brand’s sustainable vision and positive social and environmental impact. This project truly illustrates how design can ignite change.
